ANALYSIS OF URBAN WELL-BEING IN THE BAIXO SUL (SOUTHERN LOWLANDS) IDENTITY TERRITORY (BAHIA): A MULTIVARIATE STATISTICAL APPROACH

The study analyzes urban well-being in the Baixo Sul Identity Territory, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, using the Urban Well-Being Index (IBEU) and its five dimensions: urban mobility, environmental conditions, housing conditions, urban collective services, and urban infrastructure. The research adopts a quantitative approach based on descriptive statistics, correlation and covariance analysis, and multiple linear regression. The results indicate that the region exhibits a moderate level of urban well-being (0.733), with relative homogeneity among municipalities but asymmetry across the index dimensions. Urban mobility stands out as the region’s main strength, whereas urban infrastructure represents its primary bottleneck. The correlation analysis reveals a strong association between the IBEU and urban infrastructure (r = 0.67), as well as a substantial relationship with the provision of urban collective services (r = 0.71). The regression analysis demonstrates a high explanatory power (R² = 0.999), with all dimensions exerting a significant influence on the index. The findings suggest that improving urban well-being in the region depends on structural investments and integrated public policies aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and expanding urban collective services.
