The Human Capital Venture Model: Transforming Employees into Internal Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Business Growth
Human capital has become one of the most critical drivers of organizational competitiveness and sustainable business growth in the knowledge-based economy. However, conventional human resource management approaches primarily emphasize employee administration, performance management, and workforce retention while giving limited attention to developing employees as internal entrepreneurs. This article introduces the Human Capital Venture Model (HCVM), a conceptual framework that integrates human capital development with internal entrepreneurship to transform employees into strategic innovators and venture creators. Drawing on Human Capital Theory, the Resource-Based View, Dynamic Capabilities Theory, and Corporate Entrepreneurship Theory, the article argues that sustainable business growth is achieved when organizations intentionally invest in employee knowledge, entrepreneurial competencies, leadership development, empowerment, and innovation capabilities. The proposed model comprises five interrelated components: human capital investment, entrepreneurial capability development, employee empowerment, innovation and venture creation, and sustainable business growth. These components operate as a continuous cycle that enables employees to identify opportunities, generate innovative solutions, improve organizational performance, and strengthen long-term competitiveness. The article further discusses the theoretical foundations, operational framework, practical implications, and strategic relevance of the model for contemporary organizations. The Human Capital Venture Model contributes to the literature by providing an integrated perspective that bridges the gap between human capital development and corporate entrepreneurship. It offers organizations a strategic roadmap for cultivating entrepreneurial employees capable of driving innovation, organizational resilience, and sustainable value creation. Future research should empirically validate the model across different industries and organizational contexts to establish its applicability and effectiveness.
