The Effectiveness of the Collaborative Learning Model in Enhancing Students’ Listening Skills at SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid
This study investigates the effectiveness of the collaborative learning model in enhancing students’ listening skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Pangsid. The background of this research is the low performance of students in listening comprehension, where only 25.86% could identify the main idea, 38.79% could summarize spoken text, and 35.34% were able to respond accurately to oral information. Using a Mixed Methods approach, this research involved two classes (experimental and control), each with 30 students. Data were collected using listening comprehension tests, classroom observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results reveal that the collaborative learning model significantly improved students’ listening skills. The N-Gain score in the experimental group reached 73.28% (high category), while the control group obtained only 29.72% (low category). Observations indicated that students in the experimental class were more active and engaged during the learning process. These findings confirm that the collaborative learning model is effective in improving listening competence and fostering active, meaningful classroom interaction.
