This paper examines the attributes of Ushi deity of Akpoku Etche. In Akpoku Etche, Ushi deity is regarded as the most influential and most powerful divinity. Because of his potentials and benevolence in the generality of the life of the people, Ushi is known today and associated with attributes such as Ushi onye udo (god of peace), Ushi onye-eshiokwu (god of truth). ln addition to this Ushi oche obodo (the god that protects the community), adanefu (the god that goes to war and never returns without accomplishing his aim). The study relied on primary and secondary sources. The study also adopts phenomenological approach to intrepret and describe the attributes of ushi deity. Findings from the study show that the attributes of Ushi deity reveal the reality of his existence in the everyday life of the people. The study recommends that indigenous Etche researchers and custodians of Etche tradition should systematically document the history, attributes, myths, rituals, taboos, symbols and functions associated with Ushi deity before such knowledge will go into extinction.
